Do you really think Hartford averages that much snow?(nearly 50 inches)
I mean that’s as much snow as the FAR northwestern suburbs of boston(ie lowell). I know that area and no comparison to hartford. It seems to me the city of hartford gets about as much snow as the white plains to Katonah area… Yes westchester is further south, but hartford is way EAST of there and we all know how that works out in this area as far as snow goes.
Also, the data is all over the place. Apparantely white plains averages the same snowfall as central park(total crap), while scarsdale averages 40 inches!!!???? http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/ussc/index.jsp
Look at some of the other inland ct climate stations. Meriden averages in the low 30’s, cockapnosett…low 30s. Even Amherst, MA averages 37 inches a year according to the nws.
A lot of those coop numbers are incorrect and averages are wrong. The data is unfortunately quite sparse in the NCDC database.
Hartford proper averages just over 40″ while Windsor Locks is just under 50″.
Ok thanks for clearing that up. I remember how you posted about how bdl gives bad readings on snow measurements because they were basically doing a favor for the nws. With all these terrible stations, how do you know which one’s to trust for true snowfall averages?
