Snow Update – Wednesday Morning

Sitting in a live truck on the way to Torrington and the snow is coming down at a fairly decent clip. The 00z NAM and GFS have both cooled down which should increase snowfall amounts just a hair.

The observations agree with my previous forecast, BDR has changed to rain, while HPN/HVN are still snowing. I did see a report of 3.5″ in Middletown, NY which could mean my accumulations may be low considering this looks like an all snow event through 12z in the greater Hartford region before a flip to sleet.

The Litchfield Hills should have no problem exceeding 4″ in this event. I’d put the probability of >3″ around Hartford at about 50 percent. There’s a low probability of >1″ of snow around New Haven as well if the boundary layer flow can remain backed (northerly enough).

The trend continues colder, we’ll see how long this lasts because the dreaded pingers are always closer than you think!!
